What this test involves
- Each scene plays for 12 seconds, then the question appears.
- Up to five coloured aircraft fly over the landscape. Every one of them flies in from outside the frame, some fly back out, and one may leave and come back.
- You only find out the question when the scene ends, so watch for everything: which entered and exited first or last, which remained on screen, which came back, which climbed or descended, which yawed left or right, and which made the most or fewest turns, climbs or descents.

How to prepare for the Trace Test 2
- Keep a running order of arrivals and departures. Order questions are the easiest marks here, and the hardest to rebuild once the scene has gone.
- Left and right are the aircraft’s own left and right, not the screen’s. One flying towards you turns to your right when it turns left.
- A climb and a descent look alike at a glance. Watch which way the nose goes, and count each one as it happens.
- An aircraft coming back into the scene is not a new one. Check its colour before you count it as an arrival.
- Do not try to follow every aircraft equally. Keep one eye on arrivals and exits at the edges and the other on whatever is manoeuvring.
